We’re saying this loudly so everyone can hear! It’s never acceptable to discard your dog on the streets when their medical needs are more than you can handle. NEVER!!!!! It’s even more deplorable when that dog is a teeny, tiny senior with visual issues and has absolutely no way to survive once discarded. Sadly this was Coraline’s reality. At only 3.8lbs, 11 years old and with limited vision she was callously cast aside. Lucky to be found by a Good Samaritan and even luckier that we had a foster spot open at the same time.

This sweet little girl was a matted walking skeleton. We honestly don’t even know how she was still alive. We can also reliably guess this is why she was discarded. We know how tight money can be. We know not everyone can afford a vet visit but there are options and public shelters are in place for a reason. That vet visit her family couldn’t give her has now been done and we have answers for her skeletal appearance and visual issues. Coraline is diabetic and will need insulin for life so she can survive. Will it be expensive? Yes! But how do you not give an innocent little life the lifeline they need to live!

Coraline will recover in foster care for the next 1-2 months. She needs time for the daily insulin to work and time to gain enough weight to not waste way. Once she’s healthy enough for adoption we will be searching for the perfect special needs home. A home that understands she will always need insulin and is able to continue to give her the vet care she will need for the rest of her life. She’s wonderful with other dogs, quiet as a mouse and just wants the love and companionship people can provide. If you have a great big heart consider giving a tiny little dog the forever home she’s never had.

Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley’s Mutts:

  • Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
  • Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
  • All pets will be spayed or neutered
  • All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
  • Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)

It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.

We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.

It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.

If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.

Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.

If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
