RESCUE DOGS. SUPPORTING OUR VETERANS.

Battle Buddies is a new collaboration between the Purple Heart Foundation, Sponsor a Pet, Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue and Pawsitive Change designed to connect veterans with rescue dogs for companionship and emotional support.

The idea is beautifully simple:

A veteran needs a companion. A rescue dog needs a home. Battle Buddies brings them together.

The program provides eligible veterans access to healthy, temperament-screened rescue animals at no cost to the veteran.

This is a companion-animal program, not a service-dog placement program. The focus is on the extraordinary benefits that can come from companionship, routine, responsibility, connection and the unconditional relationship between a person and a dog.

HOW THE PARTNERSHIP WORKS

Purple Heart Foundation helps identify and qualify eligible veterans.

Sponsor a Pet provides the program infrastructure and helps support/fund the placements.

Marley’s Mutts provides rescue dogs, animal-welfare expertise and appropriate matching.

Pawsitive Change gives us an additional resource for dogs that can benefit from training and socialization before placement, while continuing our larger mission of rescue dogs rescuing people.

WHY THIS MATTERS

For veterans, particularly those experiencing isolation or difficulty transitioning back into civilian life, the companionship of a dog can provide connection, routine, purpose and unconditional love.

At the same time, incredible rescue dogs are sitting in shelters and rescues waiting for someone to give them a chance.

Battle Buddies brings those two needs together.

We aren’t just finding homes for dogs. We’re creating relationships that can change two lives at once.
