The sweetest dog in the world Scarlet’s story is one of heartbreak turned hope. She was surrendered to Wasco Animal Shelter, a rural shelter, where dogs often sit unseen for months. With kennels filling quickly and no adoption interest , Scarlett was placed on their euthanasia list a month after arriving at the shelter. This good girl was almost out of luck and completely out of time. But she had a ton of people working hard to get her seen and save her life. Thanks to the efforts of our volunteers and our commitment to giving dogs like her a second chance, Scarlet is getting her chance with us!
But 2nd Chances never seem to all be perfect and Scarlet can’t seem to catch a break. When she first arrived, she was lethargic, struggling to breathe, coughing, and so sick she could barely hold herself up. With a treatment plan from our vet she has significantly improved but still has an infection and bouts of nausea that we continue to treat. Poor Scarlet also has an old break to one of her back legs. It’s fully healed but she will always walk a bit funny.
With the continued treatment plan for her infection we anticipate that Scarlet will need another 1-2 months in our care before she is fully adoption ready. While she heals we are learning a lot about this resilient girl. She’s one of the sweetest most mellow dogs we’ve ever met. Always affectionate she adores all humans and has quickly become a staff favorite. She gives lots of pittie kisses and is always down to give and receive a little love. Because she’s been sick we haven’t been able to fully test her with other dogs but she’s been completely nonreactive when passing kennels or play yards. Scarlet is such a good girl we can’t wait for her to fully recover and find her perfect home. Interested? You can apply while she heals so get those applications in!

Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley’s Mutts:
- Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
- Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
- All pets will be spayed or neutered
- All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
- Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)
It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.
We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.
It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.
If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.
Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.
If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
