Sex: Male
Breed: German Shepherd
Estimated Date of Birth : 07/09/2023
We are pleased to introduce Honor. He is approximately 60 pounds, 1.5 years old, a possible husky/shep mix. He is healthy, neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines.
Honor is another of the 50+ hoarding dogs out of California City. These dogs were starved although the rescue had food on the premises and forced to live in tiny crates resulting in open wounds on many of their limbs. The conditions they were forced to endure were deplorable yet every single dog who’s been rescued from this case has been so incredibly resilient and kind, Honor included. We think Honor has had a legit home at one point as he is comfortable with a lot of things like loud TVs, car rides, etc..
He is the happiest dude ever – he LOVES ALL people – men, women, big, small – we don’t think he’s ever met a stranger. He rarely jumps on people – pretty good on these manners. He loves a party and is more than content being in a loud crowd.
Honor is an active boy, but not hyper – he knows how to settle down. Honor has learned a lot in his foster home – he settles well in a dog bed, sleeps in a crate at night, and is learning to wait before entering or exiting doors and gates. He has been pretty good on housebreaking (only one accident and it was our fault) – he is not a marker. He is learning to sit and wait for his food and many other manners. He can eat with other dogs around and is not overly bone or food aggressive. He can chew with other dogs around. He is a fantastic car traveler – loads up on command, lays down and sleeps – he has been a multi-hour trips with no issues.
He is not an escape artist – he will stay behind the flimsiest fencing (make sure fencing), including 5 foot chain link – he will not jump or dig under. He is a little bit mischievous at times – stealing things and playing games, but he is not a destructive dog and has done well when left outside when we leave the house. He does not chew his bedding in his crate.
Honor loves to play and does well with other rowdy young dogs – he loves the games of tug and chase with other dogs. He has been good with a small dog that visits our house. He meets dogs well on leash – not aggressive – maybe a little excited, but calms quickly. He has taken correction well with our very dominant female, but we think he needs a play partner and not a sheriff for a dog friend. He is living with our cat – occasionally tries to chase, but corrects quickly – he is getting better every day. He is living with our 2 donkeys – has done well, but is still learning manners. Honor is not aggressive – just playful and rambunctious.
Honor is going to need exercise and is learning to walk well on leash – he does pull right now, but corrects relatively easy. Honor would benefit from an obedience class to practice his training. One thing that is for sure – Honor is NEVER afraid of anything – so confident, spunky and fun! We don’t see Honor as a bolter or bad off leash (he is on big property right now). We leave a long-line on him when we hike. Honor likes to play games sometimes when you do recall – a kind of keep-away, so we don’t fully trust him off leash until his recall is perfect.
Honor does not have separation anxiety, but will take a few days to get 100% comfortable in his new home. He NEVER barks when left alone. He needs experienced dog owners (no first timers) as he needs boundaries and rules or he will take advantage with his energy and cuteness.
With the hoarder horrors that Honor has seen in his young years – we want the best life for him. He deserves so much after enduring so much!

Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley’s Mutts:
- Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
- Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
- All pets will be spayed or neutered
- All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
- Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)
It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.
We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.
It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.
If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.
Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.
If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
