A beautiful girl with a beautiful heart. We may never know Iris’ full story but we know enough to fill in the pieces. She hasn’t lived a good life. She was never a dog wanted for the goodness dogs bring but Iris has been resilient and is living proof that her 2nd Chance was worth every penny we’ve spent. This girl is pure love. Love for humans, love for other dogs and yes even love for her kitty friends. She refuses to let her past define what her future may be and we are thankful every day we gave this sweet girl the chance she so desperately needed.

Iris was never a loved dog. Her body bore proof that she was used for the puppies and the money those puppies would bring. Old scars lingered around her neck where she’d obviously been tied up and when she did manage to escape her “family” whoever they were never bothered looking for her. Iris sat at the County shelter and because she had significant breaks to her back teeth she couldn’t be adopted by the public. She needed expensive and specialized surgery to remove those teeth and that meant she needed a rescue group to step up. We stepped up just in time when one of our amazing foster families said yes!

Iris has gotten the surgery she needs and is now healthy and ready to start looking for that perfect adoptive home. Submissive and just a touch shy she longs for the kindness people can give and she warms up quickly hoping to be on the receiving end of any attention people bring. She’s as sweet as pie and silly and playful too. Shes very food motivated which has made training a breeze, is crate trained and is good on leash during pack walks. Just an all around good  girl ready to find her family. She hopes that family is you. Give sweet Iris the chance at the home and family she’s always wanted to have.

Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley’s Mutts:

  • Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
  • Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
  • All pets will be spayed or neutered
  • All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
  • Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)

It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.

We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.

It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.

If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.

Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.

If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
