Anyone want to join the itty bitty pittie club? If you’re intrigued you’ve got to meet Grant! He’s got the blocky head of a Pit Bull, the long body of a Dachshund and the nub tail of a Jack Russel terrier. Throw in some chihuahua cause hey it’s Kern County and yes pit-chis are a thing and you’ve got Grant! We may not know his exact breed heritage but what we do know is that he’s the sweetest, chillest little buddy around. He’s kind to everyone both human and dog alike and doesn’t know a stranger. He’ll crawl right into your lap for belly rubs and at just under 20lbs he’s basically the perfect fit. Grant is a wonderful little dude and we cant wait to find him the perfect home.

We never understand how some of these really great dogs end up in our public shelters. Grant is one of those dogs. Found on Grant Dr. in Bakersfield he was picked up by a Good Samaritan and taken to our county shelter. He sat and waited but his family never bailed him out. He waited for a month! With no one coming for him and no adoption interest Grant was running out of time. Thankfully one of our amazing fosters said yes to giving Grant the chance he needed and he got his shelter break!

Grant is a lo-key guy who’s mostly motivated by love and affection. He’s absolutely a lap dog and is happiest when he can be snuggled up with his humans. He’s not picky really any human will do. He’s done well with dogs of all sizes but prefers a little bit of space during initial introductions. Grant is close to his house training goal and is great when crated. He’s the sweetest little dude with the most interesting look and we really hope his future family does a dna test cause we all want to know what he is! So if you love pitties but need someone a whole lot smaller consider giving Grant the forever home he’s been waiting for. You’re going to love him as much as we do!

Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley’s Mutts:

  • Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
  • Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
  • All pets will be spayed or neutered
  • All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
  • Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)

It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.

We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.

It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.

If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.

Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.

If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
