Big, beautiful and so misunderstood. His black coat and breed meant he never stood a chance in our overcrowded shelter system but Tango had a guardian angel. An amazing family who’s fostered him for the last 10 months. He’s learned to be a wonderful house dog but has still struggled to find his adoptive home. Black pitties always seem to struggle. He needed our help and with such a dedicated family backing him how could we say no?
Tango originally came into Kern County Animal Services as a stray. He completed his stray hold and after lingering at the shelter for 2 months with no interest went into foster care. That’s where this sweet boy has continued to linger for almost a year. No adoption interest and no rescue help. He needed the help and visibility we could give him so Tango is finally getting his chance! He’ll remain with his amazing foster family while he searches for a forever home but will be backed by us and have all the time rescue gives these dogs to find the right family. Now it’s time to showcase all the good this big boy will bring to an adoptive home.
Tango is both house and crate trained. He’s chill in the house but still knows how to play and have lots of fun. He’s learned all sorts of basic obedience skills and listens really well. Fetch and zoomies are his favorite. He gives the best kisses ever!!! He’s very dog friendly with the appropriate slow introductions and has done well with dogs of all sizes and ages. He’s food motivated which makes training a breeze. He’s working on his leash manners and with a little more time and dedication we know he’ll master those as well. Tango is the whole package we just have to find him that family he’s waited so long for. If you’ve been looking for a fantastic big boy (he’s 87lbs) please consider giving Tango his perfect forever home!
Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley's Mutts:
Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
All pets will be spayed or neutered
All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)
It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.
We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.
It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.
If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.
Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.
If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
