We’re just going to come right out and say it cause really there’s no sugar coating what we have to say….Oscar is a grouch! He’s a grumpy old man that will very unkindly show you his displeasure if you want him to do something he has no desire to do or if you attempt to pick him up. His grumpiness can involve his teeth. With that out in the open we know there’s some of you who like the grouchy old souls. You can work around the grumpiness and bring out the best in these dogs. And Oscar’s grouchiness does come with a sweet side. He’s very affectionate with pets and love. He’ll give tiny little kisses and LOVES butt scratches. He just doesn’t want to do what he doesn’t want to do in his old age.
Oscar was part of a group of 13 senior pups who lost their long time rescuer when she went on hospice. She was no longer able to care for her animals and they all needed a soft place to land. All 13 are now in foster care with us and waiting for loving forever homes. Oscar is part of this crew and we are hopeful we can find him the perfect understanding home that will love him grumpiness and all.
How have we worked around Oscar’s grumpy side? With tools of course! We’re never going to change this senior pup so we’ve added things to make handling him easier when handling is a must. He’s sporting a harness with a handle that makes maneuvering him so much easier. Less stress on him means less negative behavior. He’s great with other dogs, although probably wouldn’t love puppy energy, and could definitely live in a multi dog home. His house training manners while not perfect aren’t horrible and he’s perfect and quiet when crated. Behavior aside he has a pretty chill and easy personality. We’re hopeful there’s someone out there willing to give even a grump the loving home he deserves to have. Are you that person? If you are Oscar the Grouch is ready to meet you!
Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley's Mutts:
Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
All pets will be spayed or neutered
All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)
It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.
We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.
It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.
If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.
Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.
If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
