Are you looking for a friend for your young dog? Is your dog sometimes difficult to match to another dog? Jacob is the dog for your family. He is amazing with other dogs.
Do you have a farm and hope to find a dog that is good with your goats, sheep, horses, donkeys? Jacob is the dog for you!
Jacob (aka Jake) was pulled from the shelter just before being euthanized. With so much shelter overcrowding, even good dogs don’t get much of a chance to be seen or adopted. But he was one of the lucky ones because a foster family said yes!
Soft, sweet and gentle, this is Jacob. He is a goofy boy with an easy-going nature. He is healthy at about 60 pounds in size and is a Anatolian mix with the typical personality traits of the Anatolian. He is gentle, watchful over his family and a bit aloof with strangers. It takes a bit of time for this breed to build trust with their family, but once established – they love their family deeply.
One thing is for sure about Jacob, all family animals are his friends. Jacob is fantastic with other dogs, cats and donkeys in his foster home. He is actually great around all livestock. He is fine with little dogs and dominant dogs - you name it. He gentle in playing with our cat as well.
He currently lives with an active, dominant, social female Pitbull and they get along great. He also had lived with a 100 pound dominant, playful, pushy dog and he was good with all his interactions as well. He loves to hang with the dogs, playing and following them around the yard. He is a more submissive/soft dog, being social in all interactions. He is very playful with other dogs and loves a good game of chase. He frequents dog parks where he has interacted with 100+ dogs and also hiked Santa Monica mountains off leash where he has also met dozens of off-leash dogs, people and mountain bikers.
He’s getting lots of time and training to make him a great family member. Jacob is both crate and housetrained. Because he is young and still learning, he’s crated any time he cannot be directly supervised in the home or he can be left outside - we have 5 foot chain link fencing. He does not have separation anxiety and does fine when we leave the house. He understands most basic commands.
He likes to hang out with his humans in the house and loves to be scratched, but he is also content sitting outside and surveying his property … such as his breed was bred for. He is not protective over food or bones and allows sharing with dogs and humans. He is not much of a barker – will bark on occasion when playing with dog or when there is a reason to alert, but that is about it. He is not a fence fighter with neighbor dogs – they try to get him to interact. He walks well on leash and travels well on long car journeys.
We would love to see Jacob with a family that likes training dogs and has patience when building trust. Given his gentle/soft nature, he is best with adults - crazy kid energy is not his thing. He actually would prefer a wild dog home - the more dogs, the happier Jacob is. At one point, over the holidays, Jake was hanging out with 6 dogs and loving life! If you are looking for a friend for your active, playful, confident dog - Jacob is your guy.
He is low-medium energy - super easy for a young dog and is capable of laying around for long hours while you work. Jacob has been great off leash for hikes and he stays with the other dogs, but really makes sure his human is in site.
If you have another dog needing the best buddy in the world and have some patience while Jake develops his amazing strong bond with his humans, then Jake would be an awesome addition to your home. Let us know if you and your dog(s) would like to meet Jake - he would love to visit!
Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley's Mutts:
Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook
Each pet will have its own profile here on the website
All pets will be spayed or neutered
All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date
Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)
It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.
We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.
It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.
If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.
Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.
If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
