Jacob

Sex: Male

Breed: German Shepherd x

Estimated Date of Birth : 09/17/2023

Soft, sweet and loves everyone he meets, this is Jacob! He has the softest energy, an easy going nature.  He is healthy and about 55 pounds in size. He has the normal Anatolian personality traits with being gentle and a bit aloof with strangers. It takes a bit of time for this breed to build trust with their family, but once established – they love their family deeply. One thing for sure about Jacob, all living things are his friends. Jacob is great with the dogs, cats and donkeys in his foster home. He is fine with little dogs and dominant dogs. He currently lives with an active, dominant, social female pitbull and they get along great. He also had lived with a 100# dominant, playful, pushy dog and he is good with his interactions as well.  He loves to hang with the dogs, playing and following them around the yard.  He is a submissive/soft dog, but has been social in all interactions. He is very playful with other dogs and loves a good game of chase.   He frequents dog parks where he has interacted with dozens of dogs and also done Santa Monica mountain hikes off leash where he has also met dozens of dogs.  We’d love to see him with another fun and playful dog to pal around with in his future adoptive home. He has been very good with his kitty friends. He also has respect for our donkeys and just leaves them alone. Smart boy!

Jacob was pulled from the shelter on his last few days. With so much shelter overcrowding even good dogs don’t get much of a chance to be seen or adopted. We’ll never know why his former family didn’t claim him but Jacob has never looked back and instead focused on the future he is so blessed to have. A future made possible because a foster family said yes! And he’s getting lots of time and training to made him the perfect family member! Jacob is both crate and housetrained. Because he is young and still learning, he’s crated any time he cannot be directly supervised in the home or he can be left outside alone. He is loving his crate more and more and initiates going into the crate on his own. He does not have separation anxiety.  Jacob does not appear to have had any obedience training, but is catching onto everything very quickly.  He loves people, but can be an aloof guy – he will never be running up to people and jumping on them;  with all the socialization he is getting, he is warming up quicker and quicker. He likes to hang out with his humans in the house and wants to be with them, but is also content sitting outside and surveying his property … such as his breed was bred for. He is not protective over food or bones and allows sharing with dogs. He is not a barker – will bark on occasion when playing with dog friends, but that is about it.  He walks ok on leash and is getting better and better -. He does not  very easy to correct.   Such a soft, gentle loving little guy.

We would love to see Jacob with a family that understands the guardian breed temperament and has patience when building trust. Given his gentle/soft nature and his aloofness, he is not going to be best for homes with lots of crazy kid energy – he prefers calmer homes.  Jacob needs another playful/young dog he can romp with and to give him confidence. Jacob is not an escape artist and can be left outside, but his area needs to be puppy-proofed. He does like to steal a shoe or a glove.  He is an excellent car traveler! He is pretty low energy and is capable of laying around for long hours while you work. Jacob has been good off leash for hikes and he will follow the dogs, but also keeps close to his humans. Jake was lucky to make it out of the shelter which is sad because he has so much love to give and is really an easy dog to work with.  Jacob is a nice balance of youthfulness, gentleness, intelligence, along with a lovely companion for dogs of all types!

Here’s what you need to know about adopting a cat or dog from Marley's Mutts:

  • Each adoptable pet will be introduced on Facebook

  • Each pet will have its own profile here on the website

  • All pets will be spayed or neutered

  • All pets will be micro-chipped and shots will be up-to-date

  • Each pet has their own application to complete—make sure you use the right one (linked from their bio)

It’s important to us that each pet goes not just to a great home but to the “right” home. Our foster parents work with each pet to get to know them and their needs.

We try hard to list all of the pertinent info about each pet on the site so you can choose the pet that will fit with your family/lifestyle. If you don’t see a specific pet on the site, he/she is not ready for adoption. Please be patient and wait until the bio is listed. We don’t decide on a “first come, first served” basis but rather on a “who’s the very best fit.” So, don’t panic.

It’s not a quick process. We receive dozens of applications for each pet so please be patient. If you’re shortlisted you’ll be contacted as soon as possible.

If selected to meet one of our pets and you currently have pets, you’ll be asked to do an in-person pet intro; we don’t do the long-distance adoption thing. If you live out of town, plan a fun road trip to meet the pet in person.

Don’t be discouraged if your application is not selected. Remember, we get a lot of them! Trust us, the best fit for you is coming.

If you’re lucky and you do adopt a super amazing pet from Marley’s Mutts, don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us for training, medication, or behavior questions. We’re here for you, and your pet.
